About

Meet Brenda

Brenda, the founder behind Lamplit Atelier, understands the quiet shift that occurs in a well-considered room.

It happens the moment a lamp is switched on.

The light softens.
Fabrics seem to deepen.
Overlooked corners become inviting.
The room settles into itself.

Brenda has spent years observing how textiles, proportion, and light interact. She knows that the right lampshade can help that moment happen.

A well-designed lampshade is so much more than decoration. Brenda believes it changes what you first notice in a space. It doesn’t just dress a room, it completes it.

Neuroaesthetics

The language of beauty that makes our brains light up.

Beauty is not simply decoration. It is a signal.

A signal of care. Of presence. Of intention.

We are naturally drawn to what our brains perceive as beautiful. We find safety, stimulation, and comfort there.

When a room is thoughtfully designed, our minds respond instinctively. We relax more easily. We linger longer. We feel held by our surroundings.

The right light doesn't just illuminate a room. It tells your nervous system you are home.

The Atelier

From her studio in Richmond, Virginia, Brenda creates bespoke lampshades for those who care deeply about the layers, the atmosphere, and the feeling of their spaces - homeowners who want something entirely their own, and designers who want a custom lighting partner they can rely on.

Every shade is made to belong.

Design influences

Brenda's design sensibility has been shaped by decades of living curiously across cultures.

Deep brocades in English manor houses. Warm woollen plaids in country pubs. Rich tapestries from the Dordogne to the Sahara. Vibrant weaves and embroideries from the Atlas Mountains to the Andes.

Each tradition reflects a different understanding of how fabric and light shape a lived experience. That accumulated knowledge, rooted in place, informed by a global lens, is what Brenda brings to every shade she makes.

Made for your room

Every commission begins with a conversation.

About the lamp, the room, and the feeling you're reaching for.
